SPECIAL BOE MEETING AUGUST 14, 2020

AUGUST 14 SPECIAL MEETING 1 1

MaskUpFB

August 3rd, 2020 - August has arrived! When the Governor shut down the school in March, the next school year seemed very far off. The spring was an adjustment period for everyone. I am very proud of the administration, staff, parents, and most importantly the student's adjustments during the Spring shutdown. The 2020-2021 school year will require more adjustments. I am confident everyone will continue to make the necessary adjustments to make the teaching and learning experience successful. We can not expect our “old normal” to be present until the COVID-19 pandemic is over or a vaccine is in place. The “new normal” will take an adjustment period. I know it has added stress to all involved. I hope our communication has helped alleviate a little of the stress when it comes to your child’s education.

To enable everyone more time to plan, I will be pushing the start of the school year back by one week. Teachers will attend an institute day on August 21. The first day of student attendance will be August 24. This decision was made to allow everyone more time to prepare for our “new normal.” The school will have more time to answer questions that arise from our plan. We are planning to hold a special meeting on August 10 at 6 pm to vote on the plan. It will also allow all of our cleaning supplies to be delivered before the start of the school year. The cleaning orders were placed weeks ago. The problem is the country is returning to work and school. The demand for these supplies is high.

I appreciate your patience with this fluid situation. I am confident pushing the school year back by one week will allow for a productive and smooth start to the school year. If you have any questions, please let me know.

Sincerely,

Gary Alexander, Superintendent
